Carlo M. Contreras, M.D.

Carlo M. Contreras, M.D., Assistant Professor of Surgery, is an integral part of the research funded by the Robert E. Foundation.

Dr. Contreras comes to the University of Alabama at Birmingham following training at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center after previously being at the University of South Alabama. Dr. Contreras leads the clinical research activity of Surgical Oncology at UAB. Also, he maintains a busy clinical practice on all areas of oncology but focusing on multidisciplinary care of complex GI oncology patients.

His research focuses on the early detection of the pancreatic cancers and other GI malignancies.
