I was born and raised in Mexico City. I was exposed to the medical environment from an early age, as both of my parents are physicians. Although I initially did not envision myself pursuing a career in medicine, during junior high and high school I developed a strong interest in science. Through early exposure to clinical settings, I gained a deeper understanding of what medical practice truly involved, which ultimately led me to pursue medicine.
I studied medicine at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), where I developed a particular interest in anatomy and surgery from the beginning of my training. This early fascination with the operating room evolved into a strong commitment to general surgery. During medical school, I also had the opportunity to complete an international visiting rotation in Valencia, Spain, which further reinforced my decision to pursue a career in surgery.
In 2022, I began my general surgery residency at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán. Throughout my training, I have had the privilege of learning from outstanding surgeons across multiple subspecialties, including hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, endocrine surgery, transplant surgery, and surgical oncology. I am currently approaching the fifth and final year of my general surgery training.
After completing residency, I plan to pursue further specialization in either endocrine surgery or hepatopancreatobiliary and transplant surgery. My long-term goal is to continue my training abroad in a program that emphasizes not only high-level surgical practice but also academic development, including teaching and research. I am particularly interested in acquiring advanced surgical techniques and evidence-based management strategies that I can later implement in my home institution and contribute to the advancement of surgical care in my community.
