Reed Foundation Finish The Fight Casino Party – November 19, 2026

Safari After Dark: An Evening of Adventure to Finish the Fight Against GI Cancer

When the sun sets, the adventure begins! The Robert E. Reed Gastrointestinal Oncology Research Foundation invites guests to experience Safari After Dark at its 21st Annual Casino Party on Thursday, November 19, 2026, at The Club

This year’s safari-themed celebration promises an unforgettable evening of elegance, excitement, and entertainment, all in support of the Foundation’s mission to Finish the Fight Against GI Cancer.

The Foundation is proud to honor Laura and David Etheredge for their years of dedicated support and service. Their generosity, commitment, and continued involvement have made a meaningful impact on the Foundation’s mission. Recognizing the Etheredges is a celebration of their contributions and the spirit of philanthropy that has sustained the Foundation for more than two decades.

The evening will also recognize Dr. James Strange as the Foundation’s 2026 Face of GI Cancer, bringing awareness to appendiceal cancer, a rare cancer that originates in the appendix. Through its Faces of GI Cancer initiative, the Foundation shares personal stories that put a face to these diseases, inspire hope, and reinforce the importance of continued research, education, and advances in treatment.

Guests will step into a safari-inspired atmosphere featuring lively casino games, delicious cuisine, an open bar, and live music by The Undergrounders. The adventure continues with The Great Wine Hunt and The Big Game Liquor Toss, presented by the Thomas E. Jernigan Foundation, two favorite party traditions with a safari twist. Adding a little sparkle to the safari is the Jewels of the Jungle Raffle, presented by JB & Co – John Bromberg, giving guests another exciting opportunity to support the Foundation’s mission.

The Women’s Committee’s highly anticipated silent auction will feature an exciting collection of unique items and experiences, including a five-day Sumzaan Safari for two to four hunters in South Africa’s Limpopo Province. This exceptional adventure offers rifle or bow hunting, lodge accommodations, and all meals and beverages—an unforgettable opportunity to experience the beauty and adventure of South Africa.

The evening begins with an exclusive Sponsor’s Pre-Party from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by the main event from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. The dress code is Jacket, No Tie, but guests are encouraged to embrace their adventurous side with a favorite animal print or safari vest. Whether dressed in classic cocktail attire or sporting a touch of safari flair, guests are sure to look the part for a night of adventure!

Beyond the excitement of the evening lies a mission that has united the Birmingham community for more than two decades. Since its founding in 2002, the Reed Foundation has contributed more than $2 million toward gastrointestinal cancer research, awareness, and patient care, helping advance important research initiatives at UAB.

For 21 years, the Casino Party has been a signature celebration of generosity, friendship, and hope. This November, the tradition continues with a new adventure, a celebration of dedicated supporters, and a renewed commitment to making a difference for those affected by GI cancers.

Join us for Safari After Dark—where the stakes are high, the cause is greater, and every guest plays a part in Finishing the Fight Against GI Cancer.
