Diego Hinojosa Ugarte

My name is Diego Hinojosa Ugarte, and I was born in Mexico City on November 20, 1993. I am currently 30 years old and pursuing the HPB fellowship at the prestigious Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Medicas y Nutricion Salvador Zubiran. I am excited to be embarking on this journey to further my knowledge and skills in the medical field, and I am determined to make a positive impact through my work.

Ever since I was in elementary school, I have been fascinated by science and found it a way to explain the world around me. In high school, I discovered biochemistry, which opened up a new world of possibilities for me. As a social person, I chose to pursue medicine because it combines the best of both worlds – science and people.

During medical school, I knew that I wanted to become a surgeon, as the anatomy fascinated me. I developed a special interest in liver and pancreatic surgery during my general surgery residency. HPB surgery can be challenging and complex, but if performed properly, it could help many people.

I also had the opportunity to develop basic science research skills while working as a research fellow at the National Institute of Cancer in Mexico. Although it was satisfying, it made me realize that I enjoyed performing surgeries the most.

In recent years, I have discovered a passion for nature and climbing with friends. It gives me peace and clarity, and I find it enjoyable. I have also started to develop and learn cooking skills and enjoy grilling and cooking for friends and family, as it gives me an opportunity to express myself and share with those I care about.

Over the past year, I married my wonderful wife Paulina. We are thrilled to start this new chapter of our lives together.

In the coming years, I am poised to leave a mark on the world of medicine and my community, blending my passion for surgery with my unwavering commitment to improving patient outcomes. With each step forward, I remain guided by the belief that through dedication, compassion, and innovation, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve. I am truly grateful for the opportunities and the people that life has presented me so far during this journey.
