Jorge Canto
My name is Jorge Canto, I am 31 years old, I was born and raised in a small city called Merida in the state of Yucatan, in southeastern Mexico. My dad is a colorectal surgeon, so I’ve been surrounded by the medical environment since I was little, and I wanted to be like him from a young age. I studied medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Universidad Marista of Merida. In 2017 I moved to Mexico City to do medical research at the Hepatopancreatic Biliary Surgery Service of the Salvador Zubiran National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition with Dr. Carlos Chan and Dr. Ismael Domínguez. Then I started my general surgery residency at the same Institute. I am particularly interested in colorectal surgery. After that I would like to continue my preparation by applying for an advance MIS Colorectal fellowship outside my country in order to practice in my hometown, since there is a marked lack of human resources and a large volume of patients with colorectal diseases.
